- Though he was born in Andhra Pradesh, Arun used to play for Tamil Nadu in the first-class cricket.
- His international debut in the Test format began with an embarrassing incident as he slipped on the delivery point on his very first ball. The same thing happened to Shane Watson when he ran in to bowl his first Test cricket ball.
- He used to play for the Accrington team in the Lancashire League.
- His international career spanned just 6 matches, 4 Tests and 2 ODIs. After retiring from all sorts of cricket, Arun took up the responsibility as a coach of Tamil Nadu in the early 2000s. Under his guidance, the team reached Ranji Trophy finals twice, only losing to Mumbai once.
- Under his guidance, Tamil Nadu had won two Vijaya Hazare Trophies. Arun was the coach of Bengal team as well.
- He was the coach of Unmukt Chand led Indian U-19 cricket team which had won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2012.
- Arun joined Kings XI Punjab as the assistant coach for the tenth edition of Indian Premier League in 2017.
- In mid-July 2017, upon the insistence of Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, he was appointed as the Bowling Coach of Indian Cricket team. Previously, Zaheer Khan was to hold on to the post.
