- He was born in a modest Bengali-Brahmin family.
- Mr. Debroy is a noted Indian Economist and has served in different capacities for the Government of India.
- He has lent his teaching services at various renowned academic institutions such as Presidency College, Kolkata, Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, etc.
