- He was born as Lhamo Thondub into an agriculture background on 6 July 1935.
- When he was only 2 years old, he was believed as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama by the Tibetians.
- To prove the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, he had to pass some specific tests where he had to identify the articles of the 13th Dalai Lama’s clothes. He passed it and crowned as the 14th Dalai Lama.
- His full name is Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso and it expresses the Dalai Lama’s Persona; as it means Holy Lord, Gentle Glory, Compassionate, Defender of the Faith, Ocean of Wisdom. The name was given to him when his identity was recognised as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama.
- He has always been interested in science and engineering since his childhood. Earlier, when he was young he used to repair watches, clocks, and cars.
