Kontroversi | • In May 2013, his name was dragged into a "failed" dope test that was conducted before the Athens Games in 2004. In the 2004 World Cup in Bangkok, he had tested positive for the 'A' sample, but the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) cleared him after he returned negative for his 'B' sample. Rathore felt that digging this issue after 9 years by National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) because the April 6 elections were declared "null and void" by the Delhi High Court in March 2013. NRAI challenged the decision of allowing the plea of Rathore that the election was a 'sham and be quashed' as he was denied an opportunity to contest. Taking note of Rathore's plea, the court said that denying him the right to contest elections was not justified. • In February 2015, a false report on his remark on women journalist created controversy after he made comments on the role of women journalists during an interaction with women from the field of media at the Indian Women Press Corps. He said, "Your role could be far better utilized without going out in the field. Not that you should not go out. In the sense of safety and security, the working hours, conditions, and different roles attached as a mother, sister or a wife." However, Rathore denied making such demeaning remarks on women journalists and said, "Wrong interpretation. My wife is an ex-soldier," read a tweet, while another added "False, false, false. - Multi-talented Rajyavardhan was born into a disciplined family as his father was an army man, and mother, a teacher.
- He had an interest in shooting since his childhood, and when he realized this, he started improving his skills with a greater amount of practice.
- In his younger days, he was equally good in cricket and was selected in the Madhya Pradesh cricket team for the Ranji Trophy, but his mother told him not to play cricket when he was in 10th standard as it would have hampered his studies. In the same standard, he was given a scholarship by the School Games Federation.
- Later he got selected in the prestigious National Defense Academy (NDA) and joined the Indian Army after receiving his training. When he was posted in the tough terrain of Kashmir, he restored his shooting skills.
- He won many medals at the NDA for which he was honoured with the NDA blazer, the highest sports honour of NDA.
- He also won gold medals in sports, such as – basketball, volleyball, cricket, boxing, and water polo at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), and for that, he was honoured with the ‘Blazer of IMA’ award.
- As Major in the Indian Army, he was conferred with the ‘Sword of Honor’ from Indian Military Academy in 1990.
- In 1996 he began his shooting training at the Army Marxman Infantry School at Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. Later, he continued his practice at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi.
- As Colonel in the Indian Army, he has rewarded the ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM)’, a gallantry award, especially for his services in the 1999 Kargil war.
