- Haseeb’s father, Ismail, was born in Gujarat. In the 80s, Ismail immigrated to Bolton for a better livelihood, where he started working as an operator in a textile mill.
- Despite working in a textile mill, his father still managed time to represent semi-professional leagues in his locality. Ismail Hameed played for Huddersfield Town and idolized Geoffrey Boycott.
- His father was so obsessed with Geoffrey Boycott that he bought old video tapes of Boycott and religiously showed them to his three sons- Safwaan, Numan and Haseeb. He would then make them “bat like Boycott” for hours on end in the neighboring park.
- Haseeb made his club debut alongside his two elder brothers for Bolton side, Tong, in the under-15s – he was only eight then. 10 years later, he made his first-class debut for Lancashire in August 2015. Following which, he signed a 4-year contract with the Lancs.
- In the second innings of his debut Test match against India, Haseeb scored his maiden half century, thus becoming the third youngest English batsman to hit a test fifty. It was the first half-century by an English teenager since Dennis Compton in 1937.
- Haseeb Hameed had an exceptional 2016 county season. Not only did he break Mike Atherton’s record by becoming the youngest player to reach 1000 runs but also scored twin tons in a match against Yorkshire.
