- Rahat is popularly known as a Qawwal and belongs to a family of classical singers with a 600 years old heritage.
- He considers his uncle, Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his father, Ustaad Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan as his inspirations, with whom he used to attend live concerts.
- In 1985, he gave his first stage performance at the age of 10 when Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan toured United Kingdom.
